Jebel Khazali
Exploring the valleys and the mountains of Wadi Rum

This is perhaps the most dramatic of the Wadi Rum mountains, and one of the most beautiful places to scramble. It is still possible to see ibex and other wild life here.
We offer a half day, an overnight trip, and a one or two day "cross Khazali" trip on this mountain. In all cases the prices include the guide, the equipment and all meals. The prices are for the group in the numbers stated.
For beginners at scrambling a second guide is necessary for more than 3 people and the cost is therefore higher, sorry! Khazali is a much more serious difficult mountain than Jebel Burdah.
It takes about 3 hours to go up and another 3 hours to go down. We start on the south face up "Sabbagh's Road". This is recommended as a guided route for less experienced climbers and is something between a scramble and the more serious climbing of Jebel Rum. You can come down another way or you can abseil down if you like. This is a very exciting abseil.
Price: Half day trip and will cost you 150JD for a group of 1-3 people, 220JD for a group of 4 to 6 people, including the guide and the car to take you there. This is the maximum number that one guide can take.
Khazali is quite big and many people enjoy spending time up here, wandering around. Often there are ibex here, sometimes even close enough to be photographed. We can stay there for longer if you like, bringing a picnic lunch with us. We would come down in the early afternoon after lunch.
Price: Full day trip would cost a little bit more, that is 200JD for 1-4 people.
It is a wonderful place to sleep at the top with all the amazing mountains around you. Bring with you a small bag with whatever you need for the night. The guide will carry the safety ropes and the food will be shared between everybody. If you have sleeping bags, please bring them with you.
When you are at the top you have an even better view from here than from the top of Jebel Rum.
Price: Overnight tour costs 260JD for no more than 1-3 people or 320JD for 4-6 people. Bring with you a small bag with whatever you need for the night. The guide will carry the safety ropes and the food will be shared between everybody. The cost of the food is included in the trip.
These prices include the use of ropes and equipment, but if you bring your own we would take this into account

From Um Adaami to Aqaba
Exploring the valleys and the mountains of Wadi Rum
We are offering this programme in a one and a half day trip, starting off from Wadi Rum in the afternoon, sleeping in the desert, probably close to Jordan's highest mountain, climbing the mountain early in the morning and continuing in the afternoon to Aqaba, where you should arrive in the early evening.
Jebel Um Adaami isn't a difficult climb, it is an uphill walk on a rocky path. Most people take between 3 and 4 hours to climb and come down again. The views from the top are magnificent.
In fact we shall probably take you as far as the coast road between Aqaba and the Saudi frontier, where a taxi will meet you to take you to any central point of Aqaba that you might indicate.
This is a great trip, going through the distant valleys of the Wadi Rum area and then following the long valley of Wadi Saabit to the coast.
We hope to take the afternoon for this drive and show you some of the side valleys of which there are a great many - this part of Wadi Rum is even more of a labyrinth than the parts closer to the village. But of course it depends a great deal on just how much time we take to come down from the mountain....
This trip can be easily added on to a one day programme such as "A day with the Bedouin". In that case the price will be lowered by 10JD/person since the overnight sleeping is included in the first trip.
Please note that this programme is not possible during the winter months of November-February. It needs a longer day than we have at this time.
Price : 90JD/person for 2 or 3 people; 75JD/person for 4-6 people. This price includes all meals and sleeping equipment, the guide for climbing the mountain and the taxi to Aqaba.
Most unfortunately we cannot offer this trip the other way round - that is Aqaba to Um Adaami. This is not allowed under the rules of the Nature Reserve.

Visiting Wadi Rum with a 4 wheel drive
Wadi Rum by jeep in one day - By jeep to the Barragh Canyon

We start in the village and drive first to Lawrence's Spring and then to the sand dunes in Wadi Um Ishrin where you can also see some Nabatean inscriptions. We continue, visiting "Lawrence's House" from where there are some great views, and then to the Barragh Canyon. where we offer an optional hike through the Canyon. Here we have lunch. In the afternoon we drive to where we have a view up the mountain of the bridge on Jebel Burdah, and then to Um Fruth Bridge (you can climb this arch if you like, it is about 20 meters high) and Khazali Canyon.
From there to the "sunset place" to watch the sunset and to appreciate the beauty of the changing colours of the landscape. Here we have supper, enjoy the evening and the stars and stay to sleep.
Price : 60JD per person for 2 people, 55JD/person for 3 people and 50JD/person for 4 people or more. This price includes everything, the jeep, the guide, all meals and mattresses and blankets for sleeping.
Some people ask if it is possible to do this trip in two half days, that is arriving in the afternoon and doing much of the tour the next morning. We should like to do as you ask, but please understand that this effectively blocks a guide and a car for two days instead of one. If you really need this schedule we will do it for you, but adding 15JD/person to the prices above. This surcharge will be doubled during the high season.
Starting time : we usually like to move out for this programme at about 9.30am.
A number of people are in Wadi Rum before this, either because they have slept here, or because they have come with an early bus. In the latter case we meet these people and bring them to Rum Village where they can have breakfast or just drink tea at the Resthouse or look in at the local shops.
Those who wish can take a self guided hike to Wadi Shelaala. This is just above the Resthouse. It is a beautiful place, shaded from the sun during the day and with a panoramic view over the village.
Here you can see the dripping well, exactly as it is described in the "Seven Pillars of Wisdom"; the water flows out from it and the air smells sweetly from a plant growing there.
The path is very easy. Most people take 30/40 minutes to go up and come down again, but many of you linger here a short while before returning to the Resthouse where we shall pick everybody up at 9.30am to start the tour.

An extra day in 4x4
Going far to the south into the unfrequented valleys around the beautiful and lonely Wadi Saabit. You would be unlikely to see anybody or anything other than a few scattered Bedouin and their tents.
Price : 70JD per person for 2 people, 60JD/person for 3 people and 50JD/person for 4 people or more. This price includes everything, the jeep, the guide, all meals and mattresses and blankets for sleeping.
"The desert road" to Aqaba
It is also possible to cross the desert to Aqaba in a jeep by the road often (erroneously) called "Lawrence's road to Aqaba.

A short camel ride
After a night in the desert, if you wish we can bring you back to Rum Village by camel! It would take about two hours and will cost 30JD/person as always with a mounted guide.

Climbing Jebel Rum
Jebel Rum is 1754M above sea level - Wadi Rum village is 1000m above sea level.

On the summit of Jebel Rum, long supposed to be the highest mountain in Jordan
First a quick warning : this is more serious going than Jebel Burdah! You are definitely into climbing instead of "scrambling" here
There are a number of routes up Jebel Rum ranging from the high grade technical routes to serious scrambling. These routes vary in price according to the difficulty and the length of the route.
The easiest (which is still pretty difficult!) and shortest is the Thamudic route, which nevertheless will take most people about 8 hours up and down. Usually we abseil down by Hammad's route into Wadi Shelaala, but this does entail an abseil of some 45 meters which many people find off-putting. In this case, we return by the same way that we climbed up. You will usually be asked at the beginning which alternative you prefer.
We start in the village and take a jeep ride of 1/2 an hour to the west side of Jebel Rum where we will start up the mountain by the traditional bedouin route. This climb is rated grade 3 on the French system. We will take some special equipment for safety - it is likely to take us about 3 or 4 hours to the summit.
Price of this route : 1-3 people : 200JD. 4-6 people : 230JD. More than 6 people will need two guides and will cost more.
This price does not include food or overnight accommodation.
If you like you can take two days to do this. Bring with you a sleeping bag and a small bag with whatever you need for the night. The guide will carry the safety ropes and the food will be shared between everybody. We hike to the top where we will enjoy the marvellous view, and the sunset, and will stay there to sleep. If you are lucky you might see some ibex (the mountain goats). After sunrise we start down again, arriving on the east side near to the village of Rum. This will include some abseiling.
Price : 1-3 people : 250JD for the 2 days, 4-6 people 280JD. More than 6 people (needing two guides) 300JD. This is just the price for the guide, and is to be shared between the whole group.
This price does not include food.

Climbing Jebel Burdah
This time we don't stop at the bridge but keep going until we reach the summit.
Going up and down this mountain will take you 5 hours to the top. You will cross the bridge on the way, but you will come down by a different route.
For a reasonably fit person, this climb is no more than a scramble with a couple of more difficult bits (grade 3 on the French scale) just before and just after the bridge, but it is very easy to miss the right way. Provided you have a properly qualified mountain guide with you with a rope, this is a marvellous and exciting outing and the views from the top are among the best in the whole Wadi Rum area.
Price for 1-4 people: 150JD. This price includes the guide and the jeep ride to get there. The price is for the group, to be shared among the participants.
We can also sleep there overnight! This is a wonderful experience, especially when there is a full moon. All of the mountains of Wadi Rum are spread out underneath in the moonlight. You would need to bring sleeping bags if you want to do this. The guide will carry the safety ropes and the food will be shared between everybody.
The price of an overnight on Jebel Burdah: 220JD for not more than 4 people. Please bring sleeping bags with you.
